Track 1
I Can't Stop You
So you probably have a point and I can't argue every side
I'm just wondering why it's me in which you're choosing to confide
Since that brick wall just behind you seems like it would do just fine
And i'm sure it'd care much more than me
Tell me whatcha wanna bet that if we brought this up to them
They would either just ignore it, say you're right or take offense?
Because as the one that listens to your made up arguments
I think I'll begin to charge a fee
When the waitress gets your order wrong at some odd restaurant
Do you ask her to correct it and then go get what you want?
Or is it more satisfactory for you to complain a lot?
Well, not tipping her would help you save
Is this really all an effort to create a little storm
Something interesting to keep yourself from ever feeling bored?
Cos the thing I just can't figure out is who all this is for
I guess I can't stop you anyway
Track 2
The Water
I've never seen anyone finer
I've never known someone so true
I've yet to meet anyone kinder
If you met him you'd agree too
Not one complaint from his lips can be heard
Yet none more humble are found
So keep me far from the water
Unless you wish for me to drown
I've not met another so loyal
I've never touched someone so strong
They say that he's wealthier than royals
And perfectly tuned in a song
No one he's met has an unkindly word
He's simply swell all around
So keep me far from the water
Unless you wish for me to drown
I've not met a man near as charming
Most every girl sees him and swoons
They say that he stops global warming
Or at the least, he's trying to
He is the most perfect person on earth
Ever to walk on the ground
So keep me far from the water
If I see my reflection, I'll drown
If I see my reflection, I'll drown
If I see my reflection, I'll drown
Track 3
Small Favors
You know what's weird?
That day to day
Nothing really seems to change but
Pretty soon everything's different
You go about your life but one day
You realize you're not the same
Person you used to be then
Time catches up with you
And I'm trying my best to
Everyone around me now is fleeting
Everyone is finding what they're needing
Everyone around me now is falling
To the ground
For no one that's falling is around
So thank heaven for small favors
I know I will sure need them later
Time catches up with you
And I wish that I could too
Everyone around me now is fleeting
Everyone is finding what they're needing
Everyone around me now is falling
To the ground
For no one that's falling is around
Track 4
Shepherd
A previous lifetime, I know I was herding sheep
They roamed and I watched them lay down in a field of wheat
I kept an order and a sheep directory
For when I'd need some food to eat
I'd take a sheep for wool and meat in
A previous lifetime, I know I was herding sheep
But one day I lost them, I know I'm ashamed to say
I looked out my window, and they had all gone away
I questioned to the sky why they would disobey
And then I heard a furious word
On how I shirked my gentle herd
And so I had lost them, ashamed am I to this day
I learned they'd been scattered across the horizon land
Too far, were they displaced, for safety beneath my hand
So they were someone else's duty to command
He'd judge between the fat and lean
And who would need their trotters cleaned
So they had been scattered across the horizon land
I quavered in worry, without me they'd surely die
But they had been rescued, all under a loving eye
If i had known this, I'd have surely been surprised
To see the sheep i knew as weak
Receiving wheat instead of me
In a previous lifetime, a shepherd I played to die
Track 5
Getting By
It's getting easier to change the past
But harder to influence the future
It's getting easier to know of a place
But somehow it's harder to get there
It's getting easier to see the stars
But harder to see the constellations
So while it's easier to find the facts
It's harder to remember
It's getting easier to have contact
But now harder not to need it
It's getting easier to create a foe
But harder to truly defeat it
It's getting easier to hear the truth
But harder to discern the lies
So while it's easier to know what's good
It's harder to repeat it
It's getting easier to say hello
But harder to tell someone goodbye
It's getting easier to see what we want
But harder to remain satisfied
It's getting easier to speak your mind
But harder to understand it
And though it's easier to work a job
It's harder to get by
Track 6
What Would You Like To Buy?
What would you like to buy, dear?
Tell me what you'd like to buy
And I'll tell you the price, dear
I'll tell you the price
You say you'd like a book to read
And a doll to dress
With some popcorn that you'll eat
That's ninety-seven cents
What would you like to buy, dear?
Tell me what you'd like to buy
And I'll tell you the price, dear
I'll tell you the price
You say you'd love a dressing doll
And a book to read
Plus some popcorn, add it all
To six bucks eighty-three
What would you like to buy, dear?
Tell me what you'd like to buy
And I'll tell you the price, dear
I'll tell you the price
You say you want a picture book
And some popping corn
With a doll together looks
Like sixteen twenty-four
What would you like to buy, dear?
Tell me what you'd like to buy
And I'll tell you the price, dear
I'll tell you the price
You'd like that book and popcorn too
Now you're running hot
Looks like that'll have to do
Cos a twenty's all you've got
Track 7
The Interview
I asked spring if she was ready for summer to arrive
She folded her arms and closed her eyes
I inquired how fun she thought summer was to be
She said, I just hope she plays with me
Out goes the young, in comes the old
Out goes the old, in comes the new
I asked summer how she felt about autumn
She said, why would I even care if she comes?
She doesn't understand how I think or who I am
And I highly doubt she ever can
Out goes the young, in comes the old
Out goes the old, in comes the new
I asked autumn how she felt about winter's approach
She said, I do all I can, you know
She drives me wild sometimes, but I love her, she's fine
And I know it's hard to change her mind
Out goes the young, in comes the old
Out goes the old, in comes the new
I asked winter how she felt about spring taking her place
She simply massaged her wrinkled face
She told me, there are days where you think it all has changed
Then you realize it's always been that way
Out goes the young, in comes the old
Out goes the old, in comes the new
Track 8
Don't Tell Me
I see your eyes reflect the morning light
And shine as blue as the sea
But honey, if you don't see the same in mine
Well, you can know, but don't tell me
I hear your voice as it's echoing so bright
Call to the birds in the trees
But darling, if you don't hear the same in mine
Well, you can know, but don't tell me
I don't wanna know
I don't wanna know
I don't wanna know a thing at all
I feel your hand long after a goodbye
Warm me in a winter breeze
But baby, if you don't feel the same of mine
Well, you can know, but don't tell me
Well, you can know, but don't tell me
Well, you can know, but don't tell me
Track 9
The Letter to Cooper
Many men have come to me
Small and weak, in dire need of truth
You don't believe in that, do you?
So I can't give you what you need me to
I display a rainbow as
Reminder of a promise passed to all
Whenever raindrops should fall
But I can't answer if you never call
See you going by yourself
Rarely reaching out for help I know
You lose the meaning underneath the snow
Without your asking then I cannot show
Those like you choose to be blind
Struggle finding peace of mind some days
I made your fleeting feelings often sway
Without my hand, the joy will never stay
Track 10
Oh, SuzAnna
I was born here in the summer
And I started in the fall
But it won't be that much longer
I'll be at your beck and call
For the winds they're blowing fill my head
With knowledge they call true
And I'm listening to them all instead
Of listening to you
Oh, SuzAnna, don't you cry for me
When I leave dear Carolina and the University
Oh, SuzAnna, don't you cry for me
When I leave dear Carolina and the University
Near a quarter of a century
You've always held my hand
But'll soon be unnecessary
If all goes on to plan
Cos I'll take all that they give me
And apply it to the world
And I'll grow myself a family
Once I find myself a girl
Oh, SuzAnna, don't you cry for me
When I leave dear Carolina and the University
Oh, SuzAnna, don't you cry for me
When I leave dear Carolina and the University
And I'm nervous if I do admit
That part of me is true
But I know that I must never quit
Cos I won't move in with you
Oh, SuzAnna, don't you cry for me
When I leave dear Carolina and the University
Oh, SuzAnna, don't you cry for me
When I leave dear Carolina and the University
Track 11
Don't Worry About Me, I'll Be Fine
He spent most his lifetime as a lineman
Working with his hands until they bled
Every day for hours, he would check the small town's power
Till his wife would watch him walk to bed
Years went by and he was soon retired
Never did complain nor ever whine
And I'm not surprised to find out, when death came to turn his light out, he said
Don't worry about me, I'll be fine
Then there was the doctor of obstetrics
Pressured and expecting much to do
He quickly found a good wife and he made the neighborhood life
Everybody else had told him to
Decades of influenced thought increasing
Yet so much the same remains in time
Through imminent divorce and the social script discourse he said
Don't worry about me, I'll be fine
So I guess that brings us to the present
Brought upon the shores surrounded by
The previous generations'
Silly little expectations, I'll say
Don't worry about me, I'll be fine
We're screaming at injustice
But nobody seems to trust us, I'll say
Don't worry about me, I'll be fine
So when we talk about when
We won't ever buy a house, then I'll say
Don't worry about me, I'll be fine
Track 12
Where Have All The Stars Gone?
Where have all the stars gone
Falling from the sky they're in?
Where have all the stars gone?
Dear little girl of mine
Can you see the streetlights
On the hilltop shimmering?
Can you see the streetlights
Making the day from night?
Have you seen the buildings?
Mighty boxes towering
Have you seen the buildings
Taking away the sky?
Where have all the stars gone?
Dear little girl of mine
Can you hear the cars, dear
As they're a-passing by?
Have you seen the clouds, dear
Miles a-high and wide
Where have all the stars gone?
Dear little girl of mine
